Re-Use-It Centre 

The Re-Use-It accepts donations of quality used household goods, clothing, books and sporting equipment which our friendly staff cull and display. Sales from these items represent 75% of the funding for WCSS programs and services.  By shopping and donating to the Re-Use-It Centre you are directly supporting social sustainability in Whistler and contributing to a more resilient community.  You can now donate your refundable drink containers to either of our two collection bins on site.  WCSS will receive the full refundable value of your bottles and cans.

The Re-Use-It Centre is Whistler's hub for E-Waste and Small Electronic recycling.

History

Whistler's favourite thrift store. The Re-Use-It Centre opened its doors in 2000 with little fanfare. Since then, it has become a model of social entrepreneurship much envied by other non-profits both locally and internationally.

There is an underlying sustainability story that represents several wins for our community. As part of our communities Official Community Plan, (www.whistler2020.ca) and zero waste goals, the Re-Use-It Centre represents three very important and interrelated task force goals of Materials and Solid Waste, Affordability and Health and Social strategies. In 2008, the Re-Use-It Centre kept 430 metric tons of material out of the landfill. The Re-Use-It Centre has the communities only e-waste transfer station (www.encorp.ca) which saved 45 metric tons of material from unethical or unenvironmentally sounds recycling methods. Keeping this material out of the landfill helps us towards our zero waste goals. Items are priced fairly providing an affordable shopping experience. Revenue from sales meets many Health and Social goals in our community as we are able to offer social sustainability programs.   

Used items that are clean, and in good shape and working order are gratefully accepted during store hours. Larger items such as furniture or equipment must be donated to the Re Build It Centre as there is no longer room to accept the donation at the Re Use It Centre.
