Twelve young adults are trained every fall to provide information and support services to their peers.
Training topics include: WCSS programs, mental health, drugs and alcohol, healthy sexuality, listening and questioning skills, employment needs, crisis intervention, and financial literacy.
The training is 4 hours per week over six weeks. Once training is complete, participants receive a nationally recognized certificate in Peer Education. Like the Outreach Workers, Peer Educators provide information, support, empathy and referrals. These volunteers give 5 hours a week to the program under the supervision of Outreach Worker Davin Moore. Peer Educators are a vital source of support during Welcome Week events and also help organize the 'Trivial Pursuit of Sex and Drugs' a fun, informal game show that takes place each year at HOUSE to help educate young adults on the effects of drugs and alcohol and sexual health issues.
