ReCycle ReUse ReBuild and ReInvest in your Community
Whistler Community Services Society has several programs that help Whistlerites meet their needs of environmental sustainability.
The Re-Use-It Centre in Function Junction accepts donations of household goods, sports equipment, books and clothing which it resells to fund programs like the Food Bank, Youth Outreach, Counselling Assistance and Emergency Financial Assistance to name but a few. This model of Social Entrepreneurship is unique and has been acknowledged by the RMOW and other communities as being a truly 'sustainable' business model by keeping goods out of the landfill, offering affordable goods to the community and using the money to help residents meet their social sustainability needs. A true cyclical economy!
The amount of electronic products discarded globally has skyrocketed, with 20-50 million metric tonnes generated every year. Electronic waste (e-waste) now makes up five percent of worldwide municipal solid waste, nearly the same amount as all plastic packaging, but it is much more hazardous. You can find out more information on the recycling of the products handled through the Return It Electronics program by going to www.rcbc.bc.ca/education/faqs/electronic3 Last year the RUI accepted 47 metric tonnes of e-waste!
ENCORP ELECTRONICS RECYCLING is offered at the Re-Use-It Centre. To see what is accepted see www.return-it.ca
UNPLUGGED SMALL ELECTRONICS RECYCLING is offered at the Re-Use-It Centre. To see what is accepted see www.unpluggedrecycling.ca
REGIONAL RECYCLING has placed bottle return bins at the Re-Use-It Centre so when you put your bottles into these clearly marked bins, the proceeds go directly to WCSS programs and services. We also accept bottles, cans and clothing in the following locations: Blacktusk Village and Tamarisk. Additional sites are coming this fall as more bins are manufactured.
Thanks to our funders the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Whistler's Environmental Legacies Fund (ELF), that helped us purchase these donation bins and of course, community partner Regional Recycling for their generosity.

These successes are part of Whistler's Official Community Plan (www.whistler2020.ca) and represent success in the Materials and Solid Waste, Affordability and Health and Social strategic goals in our community.
See the Re-Use-It Centre for further information on how and when to donate.
The Re-Build-It Centre helps our community meets its' needs to access quality second hand building supplies, furniture and appliances. Call 604-932-1125 or email rebuildit@mywcss.org if you have any questions. All proceeds benefit WCSS programs and services.
