FOOD BANK 

The Whistler Food Bank is available to Whistler residents in need. Food is distributed every Monday from the trailer behind the Catholic Church on Lorimer Road from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. except when a Stat. Holiday falls on a Monday, the Food Bank will distribute on Tuesday.  For more urgent inquiries please phone Sara at 604-935-7717, foodbank@mywcss.org

Donations can be made at all grocery stores in Whistler. Just look for the bins near the check out. This is our much needed food item list.

 

HOW CAN YOU HELP SUPPORT THE FOOD BANK?

The Food Bank is currently projecting a $50,000 defecit in 2011 due to extremely heavy usage. You can help with a cash donation made at the Re-Use-It, Re-Build-It Centres or our offices located at Spruce Grove.

The Whistler Food Bank would not be able to function without the help of dedicated, regular volunteers.  We would like to thank Freida Cook, Gail Fasken, Lyl Goldsmid, Brian Stodart, Doreen Ramage, Ellie Johnston, Cliff and Viv Jennings, Martha Heintzman, Margrit Mueller, Olivia, Isis and Eric Nesbitt, Fumi Takaishi, Brigette Liss, Eike Wanatabe, Ellen Lanchester, Karen Wylie, Kathleen Withey, Glen Steinhausen, the Tamwood Students, Sara Penny, Talya, and the Four Seasons Crew.  Thanks also to all our other volunteers! From April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011 the Food Bank helped 2824 Whistler residents, with the help of 874 hours of volunteer time and was donated 22,161 pounds of food!

WCSS Food Bank Supporters:

  • The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation donated $10,000
  • The Fairmont Chateau Whistler staff organize an annual Christmas food drive and participate in Foodworx Business Challenge (winner in 2010).
  • The Troutsmen International Club of Leisure host an annual cheeseburger picnic.
  • Christine Suter of Sea2Sky Multisports organizes an annual 5 km Fun Run every Oct.
  • Rotary Club of Whistler ongoing donation of meeting funds.
  • The Whistler Eye Clinic for ongoing donation of glasses fixing funds.
  • Whistler Real Estate monthly donation.
  • Great Glass Elevator for ongoing treat donations.
  • Spring Creek Community School for their annual donation fundraiser "Santa's Workshop"
  • RMOW annual staff Christmas party donation.
  • BC Amature Athletic Association donated $2000 from the Whistler 50 Relay and Ultra
  • The Westin Resort and Spa and the Whistler Golf Course offered a free day of golf (by donation to the food bank) to clients of the Westin.
  • Local Automotive and Vision Pacific ran a Fire Wood Chop Sale. With help from dozens of HARD working volunteers this event raised over $4,500 for the Food Bank  Thank you to Steve Turner, Tim Reagan and Claire Ogilvie.
  • The Whistler Museum donated a weekend of entry fees.
  • The Waldorf School ran a lantern walk by donation to the food bank.
  • An anonymous donor gave $1,000 during the Shaw "Together is Amazing" campaign which was used to buy food which was then tripled by Shaw! It resulted in $3,000 worth of food!

The Food Bank is GOLD Sponsored by the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation who donated $10000 and is SILVER Sponsored by American Friends of Whistler and Couloir Project Management who each donated $5,000.  Thank You to Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church for allowing the Food Bank land to operate!
