My work as a therapist is based on a collaborative approach with clients who seek answers to the questions they face. My goal is to help you on your journey toward finding those answers. For you, this process will involve a reduction in stress and an increase in coping skills. I am particularly interested in our assumptions, beliefs and reactions to events in our lives with an aim of unpacking emotions and behaviors associated.
I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor that works with children, teens, adults, and families. I work from a narrative perspective - a strength-based, respectful approach to therapy that sees people as experts in their own lives. By engaging in thoughtful questioning, I help people rediscover the strengths that allow them to defeat the problems in their lives. Narrative therapy aims to be a short-term, change-oriented solution to destructive problems such as: depression, anxiety, stress, eating disorders, traumatic stress, anger management, low self-esteem, self-injury, and problematic relationships. Narrative therapy is also a very effective counselling method with children, teens, and young adults. The narrative perspective gives youth a fresh way to look at and talk about both their problems and their personal strengths. I have worked extensively with kids of every age and connected with even the most resistant of youth.
Areas of specialization: Individuals, Relationships, Couples & Families, Anxiety & Depression, Grief, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Abuse in relationships, and Anger management. I believe in letting my clients pace the sessions, yet I am direct and push when I feel a client is ready. I work with the past only when I think it is beneficial to help connect clients with the present, again when they are ready at their pace. I don't dive into trauma; rather I work with it lightly, connecting clients to their strengths while they are processing their pain. My personal style is direct and honest and respectful.
